Are you interested in purchasing a used or pre-owned vehicle? The benefits of buying a used vehicle nclude a lower purchase price and general lower insurance rates. Here are a few used car buying tips to help you find the right vehicle for your budget and lifestyle.
Read Owner Reviews
Reading owner reviews in addition to editorial or expert reviews will provide more insight into the vehicle’s features and how it performs day to day. Reviews may provide insight into a vehicle’s quirks which may not be obvious at first sight.
Apply For Financing
You may be able to obtain a favorable rate by applying for a used car loan through your bank or credit union. You may want to order a copy of your credit report from the three major credit bureaus; Equifax, TransUnion and Experian before applying for a loan. Check your report for any inaccuracies.
Ask For Service Records
Viewing a vehicle’s service record will let you know if the vehicle has been maintained and serviced in the past. Vehicles that have undergone major repairs such as an engine rebuild may be a riskier buy.
Get A Carfax Report
Obtain the vehicle’s VIN number in order to order a Carfax report. This will show if the vehicle was involved in a car accident or exposed to flood damage. The report will also indicate if the odomoter has been rolled back, used as a fleet vehicle or if it has a salvage title.
Check For Recalls
Check the NHTSA for recall issues. If there are any recall issues you may want to make sure they are addressed before making a purchase.
